Time for NASCAR to run Cup races in the rain
The NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen yesterday was cancelled moments before the start because of precipitation and it was interesting to read and hear the excuses why they don't have rain tires for the flagship series.
The Sprint Cup is the only outstanding series in the world that doesn't race in the rain. Formula One, Indy cars, To the max Sports Car Championship cars, Grand-Am, American Le Mans Series – even NASCAR's move-tier Nationwide Series – all have rain tires and can race, sunshine or cloudburst.
Not Sprint Cup.
For years, NASCAR has said it doesn't race in the drizzle on road courses because it doesn't want to diminish the show it's putting on for its fans. Transliteration: most of the Cup drivers weren't good enough to race in the rain.

Butch Leitzinger and Marino Franchitti started from staff and raced their #20 BP Mazda Lola to second lay in LMP2 and fourth overall in a race of speed and tactics.
The last thirty minutes of the race was a project- out between the 20 car and Adrian Fernandez with Leitzinger keeping crushing on the Lowe's car right till the end. Leitzinger said "Rob Dyson got on the disseminate and said `Butch, we have a race on our hands here.' Strategy and good pit stops put us in a putrescent position at the end and we came close to bringing Mazda its wink win of the year."
