Time and time again at the movies

Take love is difficult even under the best of circumstances. But what if your soul comrade has come into your life via a time machine? Even eHarmony can't resist you with that dilemma.

These out-of-time romances, though, are a perennial hit in popular savoir faire. And for good reason: They're an emotional thrill ride. If dependable love finds a way against these tremendous odds, then it gives audiences conviction that they, too, will find their one and only. If the couples' love is thwarted, these stories are cathartic weepfests.

The latest access in this canon, "The Time Traveler's Wife," revolves around a attractive Chicago librarian (Eric Bana) who happens to have a genetic muddle that causes him to travel through time when he gets stressed (although you might over recall it would be the other way around). Of course, this causes more than a few problems with his wife, Claire (Rachel McAdams).

Review: The Time Traveler's Wife

Had a very amusing supporting behaviour by Whoopi Goldberg, and some action and suspense scenes, as well as a show-stopping turtle-dove scene in front of a pottery wheel, set to the tune of the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Air." In other words, it pleased most of the male dates who were forced to see it. So Rubin turns in his new screenplay, which was based on Audrey Niffenegger's 2003 best-seller. And, who knows? It may have once been funny like . And Schwentke caved. The checklist: Take out all the humor. No stoneware wheel scene, and nothing raunchier than a caress. Drip the whole preoccupation in soft, gooey gauze. Allow plenty of pauses for weeping. Apologetic, but even with the words "time traveler" in the title, no guy is going to desire to sit through
