Phone taps 'implicate' Moran suspect
Michael Farrugia, 45, from Myrniong, close to Bacchus Marsh, appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today, charged with one include of murder.
Acting Sergeant Mark Hatt, from the Purana Taskforce, told the hearing that control had seized a mobile telephone belonging to Farrugia and had recordings implicating him in the slaughter of the underground figure.
Police also have a gun allegedly involved in the occasion.
Farrugia was ordered by Magistrate Jelena Popovic to contribute a swab from his mouth to police for DNA testing.
Earlier, Farrugia's mouthpiece David Hallowes argued police had insufficient deposition to charge his client.
He said an affidavit lodged by watch was lacking in "proper evidential basis", a petition Ms Popovic agreed with.
Cypriot held in gangland hit 'ordered from jail'
A Cypriot man has been arrested over a gangland hit believed to have been ordered from a clink cell and four suspected targets have been warned that their lives are also in threat, police said on Tuesday.
Panayiotis Kontou, 33, was arrested on Monday after monitor raided cells at Nicosia Central Prisons, where they uncovered deposition linking him to the crime, police said.
Police said they assume he supplied the murder weapon and was the getaway motorbike driver for the assassin.
On July 17, Michalis Kakathimis, 67, was administer in the back of the head as he sat at a seaside cafe in the southern resort of Limassol.
His name was on a hit laundry list whose existence was disclosed on Tuesday and that included four other names.
